Christmas by Candlelight lights up Harmony with record crowd

December 22, 2025

More than 3,000 Sunshine Coast locals gathered at Harmony on Saturday 6 December for an evening of carols, connection and festive cheer at the annual Christmas by Candlelight celebration.

Held at Flintwood Crescent Park, the much-loved event saw the park come alive with Christmas markets, local choir performances, live music and the warm glow of candles. Families, friends and neighbours spread out on picnic rugs and shared the simple joy of coming together as the sun set on a summer evening.

Hosted by Harmony by AVID Property Group, this year’s celebration marked the largest Christmas by Candlelight event the community has seen to date, reflecting both Harmony’s continued growth and the strong sense of togetherness that defines life here.

AVID Property Group General Manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said the record-breaking attendance highlighted the enduring appeal of the event.

“This year’s crowd of approximately 3,000 people, an increase of almost 1,000 from previous years, shows just how special Christmas by Candlelight has become,” Mr Demiris said.

“It’s an evening that brings people together in a genuinely relaxed and welcoming way, and it’s something the wider Sunshine Coast community now looks forward to each year.”

The night also showcased the depth of local talent, with performances by more than 90 students from Palmview State Primary School’s Combined Choir, alongside the Palmview State Secondary School Choir and Dance Troupe. Popular Australian Idol contestants Chris Ah Gee and JaZZella added to the festive atmosphere with crowd-pleasing performances.

For many residents, Christmas by Candlelight has become a cherished tradition. Long-time Harmony resident Deanne Baker said the event is a highlight on her family’s calendar each year.

“It’s one of those nights where you see familiar faces, meet new people and really feel part of something bigger,” Ms Baker said. “It’s about family, friends, community and having fun together.”

The festivities also supported local makers and traders, with the Harmony Business Hub hosting a vibrant Christmas market. Resident Sienna Baker said the stalls were the perfect way to kick-start her Christmas shopping.

“We ticked a few people off the list straight away,” she said. “As soon as we arrived, we jumped straight into the lines.”

In the spirit of giving, the event coincided with Harmony’s festive charity initiatives, including the Property Industry Foundation Christmas Hamper Drive and a Giving Tree supporting BABI Youth & Family Service. The community generously donated non-perishable food, hygiene items, festive treats and gift cards for fresh produce, helping create Christmas hampers for young people and families experiencing homelessness.

As another year draws to a close, Christmas by Candlelight continues to reflect what Harmony is all about — simple moments, shared experiences and a community that comes together, year after year.
